Kat Von D’s Shoe Line Is The Vegan Footwear Of Your Dreams

Nov 5, 2019

By Amy Sciarretto

Tattoo artist, beauty guru, and committed animal right activist Kat Von D has been working on a vegan shoe line for years. Kat Von D-evotees have followed the creative process via months of Instagram teasers featuring details like zipper pulls and crosses. The wait is over and Von D Shoes’ debut collection has finally arrived. The long-gestating footwear range is 13 pairs strong and it’s full of cruelty-free, sky high platforms, gender-fluid styles, and sexy silhouettes that will elongate the leg due to the heel height. Von D shoes is essentially the animal-friendly footwear that all of your sartorial dreams are made of. It’s also ridiculously affordable.

KVD ultimately launched Von D Shoes because she could never locate stylish and well-made shoes that didn’t harm other living, breathing beings. So she had to take the fashion bull by the horns and do it herself.

“When I first became vegan, finding vegan shoes was a lot more challenging than finding vegan food,” Kat Von D lamented in the press release received by Alice. “I really felt like I could fill that void in the market by creating vegan shoes that are affordable, but built to last a lifetime.”

The premiere Von D Shoes collection starts at $90 for a pair of Van-like slip-on kicks and goes up to $249 for a pair of slouchy, convertible boots named after iconic metal band Slayer. Von D Shoes are made of ethically sourced and sustainable materials. Things like embossed velvets, satin, recycled rubber, coated canvas, faux fur, reptile textures, vegan suede, and a sustainable vegan leather made from compressed apples (!!!) were used to create these stunning, gothic-look shoes.

You can also expect expert craftsmanship from Von D Shoes, as they were created at a family-owned factory in Italy that is also utilized by luxury brands such as Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin, and Gucci.

If you are an animal lover whose sympathies extend to your closet, there’s more good news. The brand will donate proceeds from select shoes to no-kill animal shelters. So purchasing a pair of KVD Shoes is a passive way to further help the furry friends with whom we share the earth.

There are over a dozen styles currently available on the Von D Shoes site, with 19 more styles to roll out over the next few months. So it’s a good idea to bookmark the site now and sign up for email updates.
