Alice’s Gift Guide for The True Crime Obsessive

Dec 16, 2019

By Christine Colby

Do you and your girlfriends stay up late with a bottle of wine trying to solve the JonBenét case? Here are some off the beaten track gifts for your favorite Murderino.

2020 Desk Calendar of Murder

This is the perfect gift for someone who wants to let all their coworkers know that they probably know how to get away with murder. Each month offers a charming illustration, background, and stats on well-known killers such as Jeffrey Dahmer, Richard Ramirez, Edmund Kemper, and more.

Rabia Chaudry Idol pillar candle

We all have our saints we pray to. Chaudry, an attorney, is a rock star in the true crime world, known from the podcasts Serial and Undisclosed. She is also the author of Adnan’s Story: The Search for Truth and Justice After Serial. Buy this 8-inch candle and $2 will be donated to End the Backlog, working to pass rape kit reform.

CrimeCon ticket

CrimeCon is a huge annual convention for true crime fans. The con features such speakers as famous investigators, survivors, legal professionals, and TV show talent. Every major true crime podcaster is also there for meet and greets and selfies. The May 2020 main event will be in Orlando, but there is also an immersive pop-up event in Chicago in February at which attendees will try to solve two real-life cold cases. Or spring for the CrimeCruise in October 2020!

Paul Holes Cross Stitch Kit

Anyone who follows crime news knows that retired homicide detective Paul Holes had a huge role in the April 2018 arrest of Joseph DeAngelo, the Golden State Killer suspect. Once he hit the spotlight, his rugged good looks inspired the #hotforholes hashtag, and he’s now the true crime fan’s biggest crush. And now you can cross stitch his handsome face!

Serial Killer holiday ornaments

The Prison Mix sells these handmade ornaments in sets of six, each packaged in an authentic police evidence bag. Each ornament is a handcrafted shrink art original and features an infamous murderer such as John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, Aileen Wuornos, and more in goofy holiday scenes.

Crime Scene Clean Up body wash

This bamboo-scented body wash has a creamy, bubbly aspect that may make you a bit squeamish to look at. But seller Moon Shine Suds promises it will “wash away your worst sins and leave you squeaky clean and ready for new debaucheries.”

Serial killer greeting cards

Depressive Ghoul offers what he calls “greeting cards for freaks & sickos.” Artist John Freiler crafts wryly humorous and bleakly dark cards for all occasions. He also sells some gifts perfect for stocking stuffers, such as an enamel pin of Ted Bundy’s VW bug or a Charles Manson bookmark.

Talk Murder To Me vintage china plate

This is a vintage plate, and the trim around the edges is original. Artist Heidi Grant-Roberts applied the gold metallic vinyl text by hand. Meant for home décor, not for everyday use.
